This is a beautiful condo in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston.
It really stands out with its brownstone-like facade. Units are modern with bamboo floors, in-unit washer/dryer, central A/C, and Bosch appliances.
However, my experience here has been a character-building exercise in dealing with crime.
The condo is a short walk way from Methadone Mile. Hence, it’s common for junkies and sketchy characters others to roam outside the building.
Doors of first-floor units are translucent and open directly to the noisy and busy traffic along Mass Ave, with nothing in place to ensure safety of the residents.
Within my first 9 months of living here, I have dealt with:
– Car broken into when parked outside the building on a Sunday afternoon;
– Used needles thrown outside the door;
– Still shadows lurking outside the door at night;
– Physically harassed for money outside the building; and
– Unclaimed bags and shoes in the bushes outside my unit
If you are considering living here, definitely spend 10-15 min under the BMC bridge (a minute walk South), visit the nearby 7 Eleven, CVS, or McDonald’s, and come back after sunset to form your own judgment.
This part of Mass Ave is extremely dicey, and there’s no 24-hour security presence in the building lobby.
I’d recommend buyers and renters to vote with your money. It’s really about location, and you can find safer spots in proper part of South End.
In short, this is the wrong part of “South End” to pay for, even if you desire to be in the neighborhood so much.
