Unfortunately, due to the lack of professionalism shown by Benjamin Apartments, my two roommates and I sought out other realtors to help us find an apartment.
We were first dealing with a realtor, Mike, who told us to bring all our paperwork to the showing on Wednesday so we could complete the whole process quickly.
We asked probably 15 times if anyone else was looking at the apartment and he affirmed that no one was considering it, if we had known people were we would have insisted to see other apartments.
At first things seemed to be going very smoothly and efficiently but then 1 day later Mike claimed he needed DOBs of our cosigners to run credit (which we later found out he did not need).
Anyways we get an email 2 days later, Friday, that we didn’t get the apartment because we had been too late and someone else had jumped on it.
This really bummed us out and we were very confused how someone had gotten everything in so quick.
Mike had showed us a nasty 3 bedroom apartment with 1 inhabitable bedroom and was trying to push this on us, which we insisted we were in no ways interested.
Then Benjamin, the owner of Benjamin Apartments, begins to email all of us and what didn’t add up was that Ben claimed we were late in getting all our paperwork in, but we gave everything to Mike (apart from one check which he told us we could send him a picture of that night and which he picked up at 10 am Thursday morning) Wednesday.
Mike didn’t tell us we needed our cosigners DOB (which we actually DID NOT NEED) until Thursday at noon.
All three of us were really confused at this point because Mike was not communicating with us, Ben was acting as an intermediate, and then another realtor at the company starts texting me about other showings and when I insisted we would not be doing business with Benjamin Apartments he replied: “seems like an interesting situation.” and wished us luck.
All three of us got the impression that our money was more important to them than our concerns and us as individuals.
Essentially, us being “Late” was not us being late at all, it was the lack of commitment and hard-work on Mike’s part.
Ben insisted Mike was a great realtor, but I failed to be convinced of that. Once we sought out another realtor and were filling out applications I asked Ben for copies of our credit reports (which he told me he had copies and originals of) and he said he’d try his best.
Well he never even responded to me. And frankly, I’m so glad we didn’t get our first apartment with Benjamin Apartments because we would have had to put up with them!
If you had a good experience with Benjamin Apartments, then lucky you! Regrettably my two roommates and I did not and I strongly urge people to seek help elsewhere unless absolutely necessary.
